build quality is meh but they are cheap as h**l

The Kraftzwerg is another I'm thinking about, semi modular and not much more than the Synth 2. Build quality is actually my biggest gripe on both of them but that Kraftzwerg is still tempting at the price.

I didn't like it. The one I got osc. 2 would hold a callibration so it was always out of tune I sold it for under $500

Overall the sound isn't that raw, the filter is cool but in the end for the price there are a lot of other synths I would go for first.

Honestly desktop is a big limitation, there isn't a single desktop I'm interested in. I would go for a rack semi modular like the Red Square or a cute ms-10 or Ms-20 or if you really want a good bang for your buck I would suggest the Spectral Audio Neptune 2!!!!! Those are cheap and piss all over the Semblance, though why not get a real sem?

I'm not really looking for a SEM, I just stumbled across the Semblance when looking for a cheap small analog. I wasn't familiar with the Spectral Audio Neptune 2, checking that out now. 8)

yeah the Spectral Audio Neptune 2 has some pretty damn cool features for the price and the sound is muuuuch better than the MFB if you ask me or the Semblance. I'm thinking about picking one up for the cv/gate conversion and the great piece of kit it is.

I'm guessing a lot of people aren't aware of it. I just listened to some demos and downloaded the manual, I'm pretty much sold, especially at the price

seriously though isn't the spectral audio amazing for the price? It really sounds raw, has snappy envs, ring mod, 3 osc, multimode filter?

I thing you're right and that just not a lot of people know about them.

I should mention the red square has some retardation built into it that oscillator 2 can never be on the same octave as oscillator 1

this alone deterred me from buying it

I found on the spectral audio site that there are directions in the service manual to turn the neptune II into a semi modular!
