Logic Plugin question

Post by impaler42 » Thu Mar 12, 2009 5:37 pm

I was wondering if it was possible to use .dll plugins in Logic. It seems like only .vsts show up in the instrument section. Anyone know about this? Hoping there is a way to use .dll plugins. *crosses fingers*

There are no DLL plugins, and Logic doesn't do VSTs (by itself), and you could've found out with Google.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dynamic-link_library < that's what a DLL is.

The fact that they're just .dll files (and that's it) is because all you really need to do is to copy said file to the VST Plugins folder (on Windows systems). Since people are horrible with computers and screw even the simplest of tasks up, there's a nice setup.exe that does that job for them - and still messes things up because it puts everything in the Program Files\steinberg\vstplugins folder without bothering to ask where they're really installed.

No, I understand all that, and thats what Ive done. The problem Im having is that Logic is not recognizing the .dll file that I have placed in the VST folder. Is .dll windows specific? Is there anything I can do to make it work in Logic?

Yeah :). Your only chance to get it to work is to run a Windows installation in a virtual machine and somehow manage to treat that as an external MIDI device of sorts, or buy something like http://www.smproaudio.com/index.php
