Remod Darkstar or the Darkstar XP

Post by acidblue » Sun Jul 19, 2009 9:42 pm

I have a chance to but either an original Darkstar or the newer Darkstar XP2
The XP is only $5 more.
Just want some opinions on which you think has better features, overall performance, etc.
They have similar reviews here on VSE and here :
http://reviews.harmony-central.com/revi ... r+XP2/10/1
http://reviews.harmony-central.com/revi ... +Star/10/1

Would like input from those that have actually have owned these units.
Would think the newer one would be better, but thats not always the case.
I already have a Roland SH32 and am looking too add more of a techno sound to the already crazy
sounds i'm getting from the SH32

That sh32 you have there is one awsome machine! I beleive the darkstar xp never was able to take the upgrade vocoder like the orginal was I think they went under before they made it,It was promised it was comming soon but that was all that was ever heard. My personal oppion the darkstar will not add to much more to your sh32.Some effects maybe with the stick but the sh32 's effects sound way better.Everything on the sh32 sounds better .I had a darkstar xp for a week and found it lacking, allways wanted to try the older one though (thinking it must be better)good luck

Yeah I just found out the XP2 can't use the vocoder chip, so i was going to buy the original, but just my luck
someone bought it!
So i'm looking for the original darkstar now, however i'm also been looking at the Yamaha AN200, which has
great reviews and has a bit more features, like a sequencer and FX , more than the darkstar, but it's $100 more.
A bit above my budget ATM.
