Hi there,
I use an MPC 2500 with JJOS. I also have a Lexicon MPX1 effects unit.
I'm looking into ways of distorting the sound of my samples. Initially I've been thinking things like Sherman Filterbank/Mutronics Mutator/Ebbe&Flut(though this last way to expensive) might be the way to go?
Does anyone have any suggestions?
Best means of distorting samples?

Guitar pedals...cheap and effective
I listened to Hatfield and the North at Rainbow. They were very wonderful and they made my heart a prisoner.

Check the Sound Production sub forum here. Tons of distortion talk. Personally I would recommend owning a few distortion FX from bit/rate manglers to extreme filters to old cheap digital distortions to weird tube boxes.Hollow Earth wrote:ok that sounds like a good idea. any recommendations?meatballfulton wrote:Guitar pedals...cheap and effective
Brains can be used like a "stress ball," but only once.

What Tallow said. Also, there's such a prolific smorgasbord of distortion/overdrive/fuzz etc that it's really a matter of taste. Dive in and experiment. My personal choices have been a 2004 Boss DS-1, 2002-ish SD-1, Yamaha DI-01, EHX Big Muff Pi (new), Biyang OTD-100 Pro (tube OD), a home-made Fuzzface copy (using old-stock Ge transistors) and a home-made MXR Distortion+ copy (using OA91 diodes).
The two Bosses went, I've kept the rest. I use them for synths & electronic percussion.
Oh, and a home-made filter that overdrives at the drop of a small, light, droppable thing.

All of those early and mid 90s amp sim boxes sound delightfully trash as well. I much prefer them to traditional distortion boxes.
