Tama Techstar TAM-500 (anyone?)

Post by hageir » Wed Aug 26, 2009 3:54 am

I just got this today,
the owner had it stored in a closet for the last 10 years and the last time he used it, it worked.

Now he took it out and it didn't work..

I picked it up today and brought it home,
it's mint!
But sadly, I plugged it in and no lights came on :( .

I opened 'er up, hoping for a blown fuse, but all three (!) were good.
It's super clean on the inside and I didn't see anything obvious..

Then when I was screwing it together I noticed that the Power LED was a little loose ( ).
YES! I thought.
I plugged it in, this time with headphones and I could hear it turn on (it's a bit noisy)
and then I plugged a cable into the Trigger Socket of the Bass Drum and tapped the other end: *booooooom*
it works!

Turns out the Power LED was broken!!!

Anyways,
I googled but I couldn't find any info on it,
any other owners here?

I used to have one, but it didn't get that much use as I got a TS-305 (the updated model) at the same time. It was a decent module, but sadly it did just collect dust in my studio. A few months later I got a bargain on a Pearl Syncussion SY-1 and that machine replaced them both. Much more complex!

Thanks!
Yeah that Syncussion thing is the concussion-percussion module of them all :)

Anyways, for what I paid for it, it's good ;)
I can't wait to sequence it with my MD!

How does the Rim-Shot sound on the TS-305?
Because the Snare and the Toms are basically all the same circuits :)
The Bass Drum is the only one that's different I think..

Also,
I didn't check,
but are there any internal pots for mods?
