Oh yeah I appreciate what you are saying about the stability of the MIDI clock from dedicated hardware vs. a computer. What I mean is that Live has to do a LOT more to sync to external clock than a hardware sequencer would and it's something that its never been very good at. I don't have 8 though so maybe someone with a more up to date version could give an opinion.

good link -

i have ableton as midi master. if you have enough midi outputs it works fine. i dont care about midi delays that much, because in ableton 8 you can quantize audio pretty nice :) it's also nice that you could (i really have to work it out one time soon...) program different standard midi delays to your different midi outputs, so you could check out the delays for every hardware unit and adjust it...
you can easily record midi / cc data, but if you send it out as cc, it will be only in the clip automations, not in the arrangement automation lanes... try it out, you'll know what i mean.

besides that congrats on the purchase of ableton and i think you will like it... try some recording and you will get used to it
