Waldorf Blofeld Keyboard Sample Osc's

Post by aciddance » Tue Oct 27, 2009 1:00 pm

Hello,

I want to ask the owners of Blofeld keyboard about wave-sample memory function, as long as there's not much info around.

First, has this function already implemented? Does it works or it's just a potentialy possibility? If so, how exactly does it works- is there a special programm, which converts any audio file to Waldorf format and upload it by USB? Does it keep all those waves in memory after turning of the power?

What is the sound quality of those 'sampling' sounds? A little harsh and thin? It would be nice to hear some sound/video examples (haven't found anything online ). What about some traditional, e-piano, melotron sounds? Will they be usable and authentic sounding?

Do you think it's a good idea to load NI Absynth waves\sounds to Waldorf to have kind of "hardware Absynth" on stage? Is it possible to make 'evolving', drone, ambient sounds using this sampling function?

Aslo a couple of questions not dedicated to sampling.. Is it possible to make layers with Blofeld, how many layered sounds? Keyboard splits? Is it possible to save those "layered performances" and splits and recall them simply by "pressing a button"?

Thanks for you feedback in advance,

By myself I liked the instrument a lot, but now trying to choose between Waldorf and Nord's (maybe Wave, but it's quite expensive... and much bigger in size, it's not good for traveling and live .. )
My friends are XBase 09 | Alesis HR16 & SR18 | Akai XR10 | Quasimidi Polymorph | SH-2 | Mono/Poly | DX-21 | Sherman | Lell22 | 606 & 808 | DDM-220 | EHX | KORE 2 | Microwave II |

Yes

Yes, the program is spectre, and yes, waves stay in memory.

I like them. There's some demos available if you search matrixsynth or the waldorf user's mailing list.

You can loop your samples and then evolve them by modifying your synth patch, so I'll go with "yes."

Yes, multi mode. 16 layers each mappable to a midi channel or portion of the keybed of a midi channel. You can save 128 performances but if you edit the synth patches that they refer to, you are editing them as used in the saved multi. You change multis by scrolling through them like you would patches but currently you can't change multi's via program change MIDI events.

thank you for precise information, thOmas
but
any other opinions about wave-memory, and Blofeld Keyboard by itself are welcome!

join the waldorf user's mailing list. But try to ignore some of the "omg the bugs are so bad I can't use this synth".
