Opera Vocals

Post by Adam D » Fri Mar 05, 2010 2:24 pm

Does anyone know of any Opera style vocals available as a set samples, to be used on an Akai 3000 or Reason NN-XT etc?

Something like the ones used on this track (unless they were sung especially for the track)

Cheers

I think the ones in that vid are from Symphony of Voices CD 2 (Spectrasonics)

Many thanks, I just checked on a site and it does say vocal sample comes from that.

Is that track just a straight sample of something off there or does the CD pack contain individual notes etc?

There are 5 cd´s, mostly with useful stuff like aahs, oohs, eehs etc. Sampled each 2 halve notes. The operatic stuff idem dito. There are also phrases here and there, you shouldn´t use them for a real melody, as it´ll end up cheesy. But for some atmospherical backdrop it works well. The soprano stuff you heard is sampled each note iirc.

Note however that everyone and their neighbor uses these samples, they have a bit of YAWN reputation by now, among producers .. :p You can use them, as long as you don´t expect to be the only one in town to feature a choir..

It´s a bit like the English Horn from Miroslav Vitous, played very nicely, but my god, you can detect it in even the biggest wall of sound imaginable. :) It´s, in a way, not done to use it these days.. SoV suffers from this same kind of situation.

Brilliant I'll have to hunt that down,

It's just for a few background notes on a certain section of a track I'm working on.

It's to replace a Korg M1 Choir sample, not sure which one is more overused :)
