Korg MS2000 as MIDI controller in Ableton

Post by lser » Tue Mar 09, 2010 5:56 pm

ok here's the deal!

i'm a synth newbie, a midi newbie and an ableton newbie. i have a korg ms2000 which i don't know how to use very well yet, and want to use it as a midi controller in ableton [i know it doesn't make the best of midi controllers but i guess it will do for now until i move onto something better], but i don't know how to get it set up. i tried setting it up in reason but it just wouldnt find it when it was scanning. i tried the ms2000 manual but didn't get anywhere. i've got a midi - usb cable.

any help would be greatly appreciated!

thanks!

ls

The ms2000 needs to be plugged in usb before booting the program. It will not show up in ableton as "ms2000" it will usually say usb midi or the name of the midi-usb cable that you have. inside ableton, open a midi track and the inputs are labeled as "midi in from". A lot of time this will be set as "all ins". This is fine. At this point you must arm the recording of the track by clicking the button with a circle in it down at the bottom of the midi track channel. At this time you can tap the keys on the ms2000 and it will trigger the midi in inside ableton. You should see the input channel bounce depending on the velocity that you strike the keys at.

If anything. go to help. Search midi and ableton. google. etc...

All of the MS2000 knobs send CCs and you can assign them to whatever CCs you like (see the manual).

Using MIDI Learn in Ableton you can use the knobs to control pretty much anything you like.
I listened to Hatfield and the North at Rainbow. They were very wonderful and they made my heart a prisoner.
