Yamaha EZ-TP digital trumpet

As usual, I couldn't resist the bizarre and unusual, and went out and bought one of these:

http://music.yamaha.com/products/main.h ... ductId=213

Has anyone else tried one of these? I've only just got it, so I'm still exploring it, but it is a lot of fun!!

It's got 22 different trumpet, brass and woodwind sounds, has MIDI in and out and has an XG type sound chip built into it, so you can use it as a multi-timbral GM sound module with AWM based sample drums, pianos etc. sounds built it as well. You can play along to some demo songs it has in it using those sounds.

It sounds pretty good, actually. I'm not a trumpet player, so I can play with it from a non-critical point of view, but I'm sure hard-core brass players would say "that thing sounds s**t, man", or "that's not how you play a trumpet" or any number of comments about it. I like it.

I'm digging into a few of the hidden aspects of it. There are no controls to tweak the trumpet sounds as such, but I discovered that it responds to a range of controller messages over MIDI, such as effect (reverb, chorus and vibrato) depth, portamento on the the default sounds etc. which is useful because the default reverb depth is a bit high sometimes.

If anyone else has one, tell me about your experiences with it, and any tricks like I've mentioned.

Cheers, graham
