Windows 7 / USB Audio interface?

Post by th0mas » Mon Mar 15, 2010 12:41 am

Anyone use a usb audio interface with windows 7? Up until now win7 has been soo much better than XP, more reliable, faster, no slowing to a crawl to swap for no reason. BUT I'm on my second usb interface (first was emu-0202 and second is tascam us-144mkII) and they both fail in the same way (about 30 seconds into playing, they fizzle to a distorted sound then silence). Lowering latency definitely makes it happen more. The DirectX interface works a bit better, but it gets nowhere near the performance of ASIO (for those 30 seconds :/ ).

Anyone got this and have it working? Anyone else have this failure? Don't google it for me, I know there's a bunch of people with this problem out there and from what I read no one has a solution aside from using DPC latency monitor to analyze and help lower your system latency (things like wifi drivers, video, etc). I'm still in the process of doing that.

EDIT: I THINK I FIXED IT! If you run into this problem: try switching to ASIO4ALL driver. It seems to work fine.

tascam us-144mkII. Works pretty well now that I got that driver thing figured out. Also, the remaining clicks and pops I seem to have fixed by disabling all my network adapters and modem. Guess one of them was performing badly. Kind of annoying to have to disable wifi, but worth it playing live Im sure

Must be shitty drivers. I'm using an M-Audio Delta 44 (not USB, but still not a very new interface)and the native drivers work great. Then again, if both interfaces had the same issue, it could be your PC's chipset drivers. Very few people ever install updated ones.
