Access Virus Rack Classic - headphone noise and reset

Post by silcreval » Sat Oct 16, 2010 9:03 pm

Hi - Recently got an Access Virus Classic Rack unit - great little 1U
unit - amazingly for something this size you can edit most of the Virus
settings using 5 rotary controllers, and various buttons.

One thing I've noticed - there doesnt seem to be any way to reset the
factory default patches. How do I do that? Do I need to get a sysex
file and dump it to the Virus? I couldnt find much info on this on the
net - I guess the Classic Rack isnt that common?

Another problem I have is that the headphone output is quite noisy. There
is a fairly loud hiss audible at all times. The line outs at the back of the unit
are all crystal clear - no noise at all - so I'm guessing its something to do
with the headphone amp circuitry?

Any help appreciated :)

I got one myself about two months ago on a whim. Your post just made me try out the headphone jack for the first time. My results where pretty much the same. Theres a very audible white hiss coming from the headphone out jack. Its much less noticeable when a patch is being played though. Frankly I wouldn't worry about it, If I can recall correctly my virus c was the same way. I personally could never figure out how to do a factory reset. Also just as a word of advice, if your encoders occasionally snap back to zero or act strange, its normal. Apparently theres a bug in OS that access never bothered fixing.
We'll always be remembered, we'll always be dismembered.

Thanks for the advice appreciate that. No worries as I probably will just rack it up and
run the headphones of the DAW, just wondered.

One thing I did have with this unit - just in case anyone else experiences it - when I
received it the delay/reverb settings had no effect at all. Sounds were always completely
flat. Chorus and Phase worked OK though.

I opened up the unit and reseated all the chips that were socketed, and after that it worked
perfectly. I guess they were disturbed in transit some how.
