Quite a few things do this actually, Mackie did it years ago with the rotopod. When the IO is on a separate board and just connected to the main board with a ribbon cable it's pretty simple. I would have been more impressed if they'd made the rack ears disappear by flipping them around ala the Urei 160x series DJ mixers, that's good design IMO.
