tascam porta02 problem
I'm getting literally nothing out of the outputs when I try to playback what I've recorded. Its apparently recording what I put into it, because if I put the cassette in a generic stereo system I'm able to play back what I recorded. Is the internal amplifier just completely fubar? I mean its such a simple piece of equipment, I can't help but feel thats its broken.

Odd. Does it only have headphone out?

Re: tascam porta02 problem
guess: there might be a switch that kills the output when the deck is in 'REC" mode. might be broken or bent.

Re: tascam porta02 problem
nope that isn't really working either. Using google I found another instance were someone had this same problem, and apparently it was due to the playback head not functioning. I was able to actually play back track two, but not what I had recorded on track one. Then to double check I recorded a second time on track two, but this time there was no audio. The head phone out jack is beyond scratchy, I can't wear headphones while adjusting the pot without exposing myself to gunshot level crackling. I think this thing is throughly broken and I should have known better than to trust some cretin pawn broker who ships stuff in old rolling rock cases complete with freedom isn't free stickers.tallowwaters wrote:Odd. Thats exactly what I payed for this one. Well I did finally get Reaper working with ASIO drivers and my usb audio interface, so I guess I should try that out some more. I just really dislike working with computers, despite their obvious advantages in many areas.tallowwaters wrote:Yeah, not really worth f**k with since I see them on craigs for 30-40 all the time.

I know you've had some digital multi track machines, right? Recording into a Tascam/Fostex like interface and dumping to computer for production has been heaven for me.

Yeah, I had a zoom mrs4 which was pretty well suited for the numb skull s**t I do. Zoom provided an easy to use .wav converter, so I'd just do a tiny bit of editing via audacity. h**l I haven't recorded anything resembling a song in about a year. I mainly just jam in my bedroom and make weird noises. I might eventually purchase one of the new zoom multitrackers if I get serious about song writing, but right now I just want something to mess around with.tallowwaters wrote:I know you've had some digital multi track machines, right? I pretty much bought a cassette 4 track just to be gloriously lofi (as cliched as it probably is) but I'm starting to think I might have been better off just picking up a goodwill cassette deck and mastering to it after recording into Reaper.

What you need is an old tape based karaoke machine. I used one of those for years.
