D-110 / PG-10 Midi Question

Post by Wish I Could Play » Fri Dec 10, 2010 1:54 am

Hey guys, I've recently come into the world of synthesizers, traditionally trained on the piano/saxophone, so I've got a question or two regarding MIDI.

With that said, I've recently acquired two Roland D-110s, a PG-10 programmer, and a bunch of midi cables. I've got the manuals kicking around here, but I'm having a little trouble understanding how I'd get my controller (conventional electronic Korg piano w/midi) to interact with the programmer and one of the D-110s. I'm trying to get the piano to "play" the synth, but also allow the programmer to modify the synth's output/signal/sound/whatever. We're not looking to record or sequence or anything like that, just get some simple sound output to "hear" it and try to learn this new-to-us stuff.

I've spent some time understanding MIDI, and studying this diagram from the PG-10 manual:

and I think I've figured out the routing, so here's how I *think* it should go:

MIDI OUT (piano) -> MIDI IN PARAMETER (PG-10)
MIDI OUT (PG-10) -> MIDI IN (D-110)
1/4" OUT (D-110)

Does that sound right, or anybody have any experience using the PG-10 to control a D-110?

Thanks!
