Missing music apps in snow leopard App store

Post by jaypodesta » Fri Jan 07, 2011 9:02 pm

So you can now use "Apps" on a mac running OSX snow leopard - great...

So searched for "Rebirth" "Korg" and "Moog" - nothing. Anyone know what is the deal?

I'm guessing either they haven't got round to porting things yet, or the basic idea behind the success of those apps on iPad/iPhone is their touch interface. I'm hoping it's the former. There's no technical reason you wouldn't want Rebirth on a desktop/laptop, given it started out that way. Give it time, the thing has only just opened.

OP: It's not for running iphone apps on a mac, it's for buying mac apps online.

You sure? Got the impression that it was now the case that the apps that have been on iphones and ipad (in particular) would now work on your OSX Leopard mac.

Maybe I'm wrong?

No. They are incompatible at a binary level. Iphone/ipad apps are compiled for the ARM cpu architecture and stuff for Snow Leopard is compiled for Intel... (expect universal binaries to die out in a couple years). The App Store on OSX is just Apple bringing the iOS software sales model to the Mac.

Also as it stands now ... plugins are not allowed . I think that will change before too long as the rule that keeps them out sounds to me to be written to protect against Malware and system instability .
I have no doubt it will be made revised , however if for some reason it didn't that could be circumvented by dev's selling the plug as a stand alone and offering a free DL plugin as a bonus ... thou I don't think it will come to that .

BTW You dev's at propeller head hear that ? Not a bad Idea to just go ahead and make an OSX Port for rebirth as I can only imagine a good 20% of people who bought the iPad iPhone version would buy a native OSX version .
h**l it's even x86/x64 arch now do the port from the older windows version . I doubt it would be as much work as the ipad version and I am sure you could use another $15 a pop here and there ;)
Some wish to leave their mark ... I want to leave a scar .
