mixer questions

Post by elsquirrel » Tue May 17, 2011 2:47 pm

I just got a new mixer (tascam m-1600) and it has a few features I'm not familiar with. Any help enlightening me would be appreciated.

It has sub inputs for each aux buss, also for the stereo outputs. I could see f you wanted to chain together to mixers the stereo sub input would be useful. What would be the purpose of the aux sub inputs? The manual is fairly spartan and simply says it may also used to connect to external mixer.

It also has a +4dBm/-10dbV switch for the stereo out. +4 being balanced TRS and -10 being unbalanced mono.
I just have it connected to an unbalanced preamp at the moment, so I would set it to -10, right? I feel a bit ignorant on this issue, can somebody elaborate on the +4, -10 thing.

thanks ;)

The +4/-10 thing refers to actual levels. The +4 is hotter (doh), most balanced pro audio gear expects this level. -10 unbalanced is for consumer gear, plays well with guitar amps.

The sub inputs allow you to share submixes/auxes from multiple consoles, controlling the overall level in one place. If you have only one console, ignore them.
I listened to Hatfield and the North at Rainbow. They were very wonderful and they made my heart a prisoner.
