Kaoss App for iPad/iPod

Post by GuyaGuy » Sun Jun 05, 2011 4:03 am

Can you recommend a good Kaoss-style app for iPad or iPod? I mostly want to manipulate my own audio samples--the forward/reverse effects. I did a search but didn't find much. I've found a few but iTunes user reviews left me more confused. Thanks!

Edit: Found one!

moog filtatron can do some manipulation of samples etc, you have to put the sounds onto your iphone/ipod touch etc, and then inside the app you can import them.

It has a kaoss pad style section, like the touch pad on a moog voyager.

Im not sure about forwards and reverse, but you can use the filter, delay and overdrive etc, plus it sounds good...

Cool, I might check it out. But I'm mostly looking for the sampler/reverse effect of the KP.

Is it necessary to do all the stuff onboard? You can just use touchOSC and run it into your computer. Renoise has an inbuilt OSC server protocol now which makes it pretty useful for that. You'll also get more flexibility.

Hm, looks like you can just play forward/reverse and control the speed. I'm looking for the "scratch" style forward/reverse manipulation (91 and 92 on the KP2 a.k.a. the "Everything In It's Right Place" effect.).

Doesn't have to be an iPad app but they're generally fairly inexpensive. But to be honest haven't even found a VST that will do it. I thought ShakePad would but it seems to do just about everything BUT that.

If you really want exactly that effect then just buy a kaoss pad. It's not like they're rare or expensive.

OP has a point though - considering korg makes apps they could totally make an iKP. would reduce clutter on my desk by one. I guess they would be further competing in a market segment they already dominate though (hardware touch-based FX units) and it wouldn't have a great appeal to the non-serious hipster crowd because you need to have the input cable for serious work.

I have one and the PS jack broke.

But also

And also

An iPad app or VST would be able to store more samples than the KPs do.

I've been tempted by that but judging by the vids and free version i tried, it looks like you can only use the effects while something is looping.

Just downloaded and played with this one a bit and it's pretty awesome. The forward/reverse isn't as smooth as on a Kaoss Pad but I think ill use it more for what it was designed for--sort of a Machinedrum/MPC hybrid. Thanks for the tip!

For more Kaoss style "scratching" I've been pretty happy with the SampleWiz. Definitely one of my favorite apps.
