yamaha dx9 help, no sound...
hello I have a dx9 that only makes a white noise sound, when the volume is turn up, but that's about it...could it be that it had its memory erased? Also it might be missing a part, don't know for sure but I will post some pics later...any help is welcome...

Select a patch then initialise it. You should be able to hear a pure sine wave. Also check the battery; if it's dead, all the patches will have gone.

Re: yamaha dx9 help, no sound...
Yes please. I have a DX7 mark 1; we may be able to compare them. The DX9 can't be very different.
Battery-wise, what voltage reading do you get? There is a button on the front panel that allows you to display the actual voltage. According to the manual (http://www2.yamaha.co.jp/manual/pdf/emi ... h/DX9E.PDF), the operational voltage is 2.2V to 3.3V. The battery is a standard CR2025 (or 2032?) lithium coin-style battery which you can buy from Boots (if you're in the UK!) It normally needs to be soldered but you can put in a battery holder instead - let me know if you want one - to make it easier to change the battery next time. It is easily accessible anyway.

Re: yamaha dx9 help, no sound...
it seems to be working, it loads patches 18, 19, and 20...but that's it...does anyone know of a good dx editor? I got DX manager 3 but it is really slow...and I can't figure it out...

Most likely un-helpful advice from a non-DX owner:
Is there a GLOBAL reset? I know on the Korg DW series when the battery dies the memory is loaded with random junk that OFTEN will prevent the porper loading of Sysex files. You must clear the patch memory first,

Not on the DX-series. When the battery dies, the patches disappear and the names are replaced with random Japanese characters in the display. Sysex files can be loaded straight away without any problems, normally.rhino wrote:Most likely un-helpful advice from a non-DX owner:

The sysex file that megamanx tried to load was either corrupt or only contained a few patches, I guess.

There are lot of free universal sysex applications on the web. I use ChangeIt!, which works with everything.

Re: yamaha dx9 help, no sound...
Hello there all,
Whilst looking for a libraian software to use with my DX9 I saw this thread. I have since downloaded Changeit but, maybe i'm being thick, I can use it?
It appears to have presets for various other synths but no DX9 (or any yamaha DX for that matter). Have I missed some thing? Is there a user guide somewhere?
