I do... it's neat. And needed if you a copping that sound.

However I think having the option of polyphony on the attack/release is key. I think the switch is a good idea and I will pursue it.

I so want to build this!

I love the string synth idea and especially using discrete dividers. Maybe the dividers could be built as sub modules using SM components to save space.

madtheory wrote:Just reading that article. The Eminent had one master oscillator, but 6 cross modulated delay lines. That's the first key. Even the thinnest sawtooth wave will sound massive through that.
Gordon got this wrong in his article. The Eminent 310, just like the Novachord, Philicorda GM751 and PS3100, has 12 master oscillators (L/C Hartley oscillators to be precise) feeding the top of each divide down chain.

The degree of movement in the 310 is significant because of its free running oscillators, vibratos and mixed dual free-running LFOs for each of the BBD chorus stages which are mixed in parallel.

You should tell him! He's always open to correction.

A friend of mine has a Philicorda. Great sounds. I sampled it ages ago with a 414 against the speaker grill.

The best sounding stringers IMO are the Korg Polysix and the Freeman Symphonizer, but those just sound too real. next in line is the Roland RS-505. Clone it and you´ll conquer the World.

The Polysix is not a stringer. It's a polyphonic synthesizer.

You're looking at a huge difference in cost between paraphonic and polyphonic, there's no way you could do analogue polyphony and keep it under $500. The available niche for a product is with a cheap paraphonic unit, if you lose sight of that you'll end up succumbing to feature creep and you'll wind up with a very nicely speced bit of $2000 vapourware.

The Polysix is not a stringer. It's a polyphonic synthesizer.
....A polyphonic synth that can faithfully produce stringer sounds with an ensemble using three MN3004 BBD delay lines. You're right though in saying, in semantics it sounds overly reductionist to call the PS-6 simply a stringer.

I should have called you guys when the street reporter called two racing Ford Focus racers. People must know they´re family saloons meant to carry groceries.
And look, someone has just called the Fairlight a sampler in a sampler context on a sampler thread. How dare they.
Oh and the 310U is not a stringer, it´s a home-organ. Gee what are these people on?

What defines a "stringer" isn't what effects it features, though. What defines a "stringer" is a keyboard designed to emulate strings. Any polyphonic synth ever can make the same sorts of string noises a stringer makes.
If the Polysix were considered a stringer simply because it has an effect, then nearly every single-osc polyphonic with chorus would be one, too... including the Juno 6, etc. and that's just crazy.

Yes, well, I apologize. But people who inaccurately or misleadingly portray information sicken me. :::shrugs::: What's to be done?

Just think of stringer as adjective rather than noun.
