Converter for US Akai AX 60

Post by 808&909&303&303&PCF » Sun May 13, 2012 6:17 pm

Hi everybody,

I tried searching the forum but the search results all corresponded to midi / cv converters.

I've just got hold of an Akai AX 60 from ebay, it's the US model, so comes with a fixed US plug and as far as the soon to be ex-owner can tell me, runs on 110v. I checked the service manual online and found some models have a switch to convert between 110v and 220v, but I don't think I have that model. I live in the Netherlands so can anybody help me to find where I can get a voltage converter and plug adapter to run a 110v synth on the European 220v grid?

I've tried searching the net but don't trust my own basic knowledge before committing to something!

Thanks in advance for any advice.

I think I've resolved this - a step down converter seems to be the right thing...

Some good basic reading here for anybody that has a similar question in future.../

I know that on alot of transformers in the synth, simple rewiring can do the trick. i haven't looked at this synth, but you should look into it. Most transformers can do 240 and 120, just moving wires is required

I'm away on vacation... but I have this synth and the repair manual. I think there are tabs on the transformer that can be swapped for 220v use.

It should be as easy as swapping those PLUS using an adaptor plug or swapping out the AC cord.

I'll be back this weekend... maybe send me a PM to remind me to look in a week. save u the trouble of buying the step-up xformer

Thanks for the replies so far, very much appreciated.

I would prefer to switch the wires as you both suggest - I don't want to run the synth on a converter for the rest of its life.

I will drop you a PM over the wekeend, David - thanks again to you and cgren for your replies.
