TB 303 servicing and maintinence In Australia

Post by TEN_K » Fri May 18, 2012 11:56 pm

Hello everyone this being my first post I will start with a big warm hello to all synth lovers.
My poor TB303 #186100 has had battle scars since I got it in 2001 and has other issues like grinding pots output jacks crackling usual wear and tear It hasn't had any sort of overhaul or service.I have taken good care of it ever since.I haven't really used it in many traks due to me never getting off of my a*s and purchasing a midi to din sync adaptor.
I was product of the software synth revolution and I started makin tunes in 1999. I make hard house/Trance and used rebirth for acid sound, However, where I have used THE 303 and managed to manually keep it in sync, or fluked it in sync for minutes are some of my favourite ones. Those few moments were always THRILLING. I really do love it ! I have always wanted to use it a h**l of alot more than I have.
Now though "is the time " to get "HER" put into the best contion possible as my duty as an owner.
After another one of those rare moments when I say "I might just try the 303 for a bit I got luicky and it jumped into a tune almost of its own free will and made the trak into something special!
My question is to other owners about how they maintain theirs. And what practical advicie they can give.
I have some fears that in an attempt to get it serviced and repaired it might get "accidently damaged" or deliberately sabotaged by some "Shonky" repairer or being sold some BS of it being on the brink of failure or the "THE CPU DIED" when it could be swapped amongst other things.( have however done some research on what is and isn replaceable and the "CPU" seems to be the only irreplaceble part. Is this right?
Any advice that can be offered would be greatly appreciated THANK YOU

Since you're in Australia I would think the best guy for serving would be Robin Whittle (the Devlifish mod guy) - [email protected].

My shop is closed at the moment as I have other commitments and something of a backlog of basket case machines that need a lot of work for me to catch up on, but I do know all of the repairers of any note in Australia, and I cannot conceive of any of them doing anything dodgy like you mention, they have all been around for many years and all have a good reputation.

Phase Engineering, Dee Why, Sydney:

They fixed my Alesis MMT8, Casio FZ sampler, Alesis 1622 mixing desk - good work by them.

Also, Hutchings keyboards, Edgecliffe, Sydney:
