Help: which vintage synth is this?

Post by synth_maniac » Tue Dec 24, 2013 5:05 am

Hi all :)

Although I’ve been using the site as a research tool for a long time, I signed up only today because I have a question.

I came across an low-resolution offline video of a vintage electronic keyboard, and want know which one it is.

Information given in the video itself was pitifully scanty: no manufacturer information, no country of manufacture and not even a decent shot of the instrument that shows the control panel etc.

All I could gather was that the instrument is monophonic and was manufactured sometime in the early or mid-1950s.

I’m including some photos taken while the video was on.

Any help is appreciated :)

Yup, that’s the one :) Thanks :)

In the video, they kept referring to it as a “Clay Violin”, so when I searched online using those terms, I came up with clay sculptures of violins!

Yeah it's normally pronounced CLAV-ee-oh-LIN, I believe.

If you're interested in the development of early synths and electronic music I highly recommend this short NZ radio series: http://www.radionz.co.nz/concert/progra ... ulmachines
