LOL, The 909 ride was just the crash played softly. And it's very cool that the guy still has the actual cymbals used for the sampling.

Was at NAMM today. Went to the Roland exhibit. I asked a Roland rep there about Aira and he sorta looked at me with frozen eyes and said, "We don't have it here...I don't know anything about it other than what's on the website." and he changed the conversation. Hmm.

Damn you Roland, you big f'ing tease!

I did overhear that the new FA workstations are re-branded Fantoms. Apparently another company threatened Roland with copyright infringement with the name "Fantom" so they changed it to "FA" and put everything into a slimmer casing.

The reps wouldn't even know, you'd have to ask the actual PR people...

I know Phantom Guitars threatened them with a lawsuit a couple years ago and the "X" series Fantoms all had some stupid acknowledgement printed in every ad etc...

Gotta eat , shower, etc, and head back down there today.

A cymbal can be played many ways and produce many timbres. Hard, soft, bell, center, near the edge, scraped.

Yes, very cool that he kept cymbal after all these years.

It's a pity most drummers don't seem to know that ;)

haha I've always maintained that you can tell a good drummer if they understand the practical meaning of dynamics

The FA-06 had a pretty comprehensive VA synth inside. Too bad that a: Roland didn't spend the extra $40 or so to have a touch screen and b: roland doesn't deal with press they don't 'know'

Preach it! As far as I'm concerned, Elektron's release of the RYTM means "game over" for me. I don't need anything else in terms of a drum machine. Ever.

I'm still in love with my A4, so maybe my perspective's a little off. But Elektron just makes one helluva product. You really have to play one to understand. Anyway, I can't see the RYTM being a misstep in Elektron's otherwise tremendous product line.

Ok well, the only people that got told anything about the Aira are people apparently that Roland has under NDA already...

I know that when Roland was at Sweetwater to demo the new FA series, they were un characteristically tight-lipped about the Aira. I was told the only comment said in passing was that they were quite upset about the leaks online.

My Roland guy - who is usually pretty good about letting me know something is up - hasn't returned any of my emails. I didn't catch they were waiting 'til February to announce, either. Isn't that MESSE month?

Messe is in March. Not sure what Roland plans to do with their Aira launch in Feb.

March - got it (never been to MESSE). I wonder if there's an anniversary or something else in February?
