Hello all!
Well, I can thank Vintage synth explorer for my new found obsession with old synths!
I've been buying up old gear at a rapid rate. I started with my old D70 and MMT8 which I've had from new, and have added in a matter of months to the collection a D10, JV1000, DX11, TR505, JV 1080, 2080 full of cards, JV880, R8, MC50, and a U220 on the way!
No idea how to use any of them, but I'll learn!
Anyway, the aftertouch doesn't seem to work on the JV 1000. Can anyone tell me what I need to do to get it going?
Cheers in advance!

AT tends to fail on these old boards... Might have to replace the keybed if you truly need it.
Can you test it with another keyboard via midi?

I could do that.....if I knew how!pflosi wrote:AT tends to fail on these old boards... Might have to replace the keybed if you truly need it.

I assume it's the same as a sound module? I just plugged a midi lead in and they worked first go.

Yes, like a soundmodule. Midi out from your master keyboard to the JV1000's midi in.
So if that works, your keyboard contacts on the JV1000 are bad. I wouldn't bother to repair that myself, but YMMV. Do you really need it on the same board?

Re: First post! JV 1000 aftertouch issue
OK....so I discovered that it actually works. You just have to press really really hard!!
As in press a key with your thumb with the rest of your fingers under the synth and squeeze as hard as you can....so much so that the key flexes! This isn't normal for the JV 1000, is it?
Any suggestions for a fix?

Re: First post! JV 1000 aftertouch issue
Sorry, no idea specifically about the JV1000... But for example on the alpha Juno (a Roland keyboard as well), if the AT still works, you also have to literally put your whole weight onto the keyboard to get it working... So it might be normal.
In general, getting AT right, both with regard to the physical interaction with the keys as well as with the technical behaviour, is quite hard and there are not that many synths that do it well... IMO / IME...
