Recording synth as Midi

Post by Revolution909 » Tue Oct 10, 2006 9:39 pm

I have an Xiosynth and I want to use one of the voices on it in a project. However for the part in mind, its slightly a bit too hard for me to pull off smoothly to record real time audio. So I wanna record it as Midi. I can get all the data in and playback hearing the correct voice, but as soon as I change voice/midi channel on my synth, or export the project as wav/mp3 then the midi data no longer plays back.

Could anyone tell me the easiest/cheapest ways to record this as midi? The synth connects to the computer via USB and also has a midi output, if that is any use to people.

Thanks for any responses.

Cheapest legal music suite would be getting a copy of Computer Music on any given month.
they have their own Seqencer & soft synths I think there's an audio program too though I haven't used it.
The magazine usually ships with a bunch of extras too.

What were you using to record your midi anyway?

if you change midi channels and your machine isn't multi-timbral you'll not hear anything.
Also your midi will not automatically be converted to a file on expert, you need to track(ie: record) the audio coming from your synth.

Cheers

I'm using Cubase to record and create midi tracks. Yeah, synth isn't multi-timbral so it aint suprising that channel changes stopped sound. But I'm still not sure how to get the sound to stay when my synth isn't plugged in and stuff.

you need to recod your synth sound or use a sofsynth.
you won't get anything when its not plugged in as the xiosynth is a sound generator isn't it?
