So, I just got a MIDIsport 2x2 to use my JP-8000 with Garageband, until Digital Performer comes in next week. I have the MIDI out from the JP-8000 running to the MIDI in on the MIDIsport, and vice versa. I connected the USB cord to my laptop. Oh, and I already installed the MIDIsport software. Now, when I turn it on, the USB light remains lit, and the In A light blinks rapidly, but nothing else lights up. No sound when I play, no nothing. Do any of you know what I am supposed to do with my JP and/or the software to make this function properly?
BTW, I looked in my manual for the JP. Couldn't find anything helpful. I'd really appreciate any help you guys could offer.

Which one make no sounds? If the JP-8000, look at something like the Local Control and turn it to on, so the JP will make sounds by itself. But I assumed that the "no sound" means no sound from the Softsynth played within the Garageband as the software host. While I don't use Garageband, but mostly you must activate/select the MIDIsport from the Midi Option page, then in the Softsynth track select the MIDI Input/Output to Midisport 1. Sometime to play the JP right with the sequencer, you also need to turn the Local Control to Off. Turn it on again when you want to play it without the sequencer attached.

Sounds like a job for http://tweakheadz.com/how_to_get_started_with_midi.html
I'm guessing the problem is expectations of what it's possible to do with midi. That article should clear that up for you.

The Midi Sport 2x2 has a push button on it. I recall it needs to be pushed in to operate with USB. I also recall that the LED near the switch pulses when operating correctly.
Your computer should recognize the Midi Sport when it is hot plugged. You will need to select the desired midi interface in your software.
The fact that you have the A in light flashing should indicate data from the JP-8000 is received by the Midi Sport.
Also recall that the JP-8000 has "dual" mode and this places data on two ouput channels.
