I Need Some General Maintenance tips...

Post by Mo » Sat Oct 14, 2006 5:55 am

I recently got my hands on a Roland Jupiter-6 a few days ago (for $500 in sweet condition! tee-hee! I'm still giddy!) and I was planning on opening it up, dusting it's guts, and cleaning its pots and pans. I was hoping someone could tell me the most effective method of removing the grit from the sliders, etc.

I was also wondering if it is worth it to install the Europa firmware upgrade for this synth. Thanks.

The best way to clean out sliders is to use the cans of compressed air they sell for cleaning out computers. Then follow the compressed air with a potientiometer cleaner such as DeOxit, or something like it from radioshack. That should work in about 90% of cases, but sometimes sliders are just too far gone and must be replaced. As for the Europa upgrade, I've never heard one, nor played with a Jupiter 6 that had it, but around here anyone that has a JP-6 with the Europa modification is worshipped. I've never heard anyone say anything bad about the upgrade. Anyway, great price for such an awesome synthesizer, I wish I could find one for that kind of money.
