too difficult for a novice?

Post by cbjlietuva » Sun Oct 15, 2006 4:49 am

ok, after a few weeks of my Ion being in its box, nicely stored and protected, i pull it out today to find that one of the keys has stopped working. I think it may be a loose connection. how difficult is it to open the case and get access to the keyboard area? like, is the Ion pretty simply laid out underneath the case or is it like a VCR, ready to spring apart when you touch the first screw...?

any help would be nice! thank you

Not difficult. It's just a matter of unscrewing the bottom screws and lift the top.

I'm sure it's just a matter of dirty contact. Maybe a loose wire but I'd check the contact underneath the key first. Just push on the back of the key to get it out of the way. Most of the time, there is c**p there (the rubber itself). But you might need to disassemble the contact board for deep cleaning.

Been a while and I didn't do it myself (my assistant at the time did it... I just came in when opened and fixed something else in it) but if memory serves, only the 4/8 screws in the corners needed to be removed. The others was to hold the PCB and stuff.

Sorry for not being very precise but I frankly don't remember.
