MPC 2000 and MMC/MTC

Post by kk994 » Fri Nov 10, 2006 3:13 pm

A friend wanted to sync Pro-Tools to his MPC so as the transport controls on the MPC would control Pro-Tools.

We set it up and it worked. The MPC is the MTC+MMC master and PTools is the slave. I put PT into sync, record enabled a track and knocked the transport into record ready. When I press play on the MPC PTools starts to record.

The hope was we could layer tracks on top of each other and they would be in sync.

However every new recording is going slightly out of sync with the previous one. I thought if I had synced them through MTC and MMC this should not happen. The sequncer should start at the same time every time however this is obviously not happening.

Any ideas.

Whenever you're syncing things you should give them 2 to 5 or so seconds to lock together properly before you have any sounds that need to be in sync. If you leave 2 or 4 bars empty at the start you should be fine.

I personally always let tools be the master in those sorts of situations and haven't had a problem yet. It should work as a slave though, but could freak out if the MPC loops though. MMC control from the MPC should be fine, but I'd let tools be the MTC master if you still have sync issues after leaving a few blank bars at the start.

I'll give it a go. I tried it both ways PT being the master then the slave. I didn't try to have PT be the MTC master and the MPC the MMC master. I'll give it a go.... I thought I'd leave the MPC as the maser I thought maybe the clock would be more stable than a crappy mutli purpose PC.

I did try a little pre-roll but it was still f**k up. Maybe I need more...

Won't see him now till monday... left him with it half working for the weekend. Ah well I'll give it another go monday.
