I'm becoming obsessed!

Post by ryryoftokyo » Fri Feb 08, 2008 7:05 am

so many moons ago, I was fortunate to get an AN1X by Yamaha in trade for another synth.

Now, right off the bat I loved it, but recently I've really opened that beast up, and well, it has pretty much ruined all other synths for me.

Sure, I have lots and lots of other wonderful analog and digital boards, but honestly, they're collecting dust. And that damn AN1X is why!

Are there any boards that you have or have played that have done this to you???

Not really collecting dust cos at the minute i am cycling between last year's 3 purchases:

1st purchase : Nord g2, there is always something u can try out.. something new to explore. Never a dull day with a G2 in the studio.

2nd purchase : Machinedrum SPS 1, just so damn touchable, it really has a tweak me ion beam that penetrates your subconcious.

3rd purchase : Electribe ESX, great for just making a whole piece of music with... but u need to put yr onw sounds in there, which can be a bit of a bore.

I need to get out of this habbit though and start using them together!!!

moog LP

it's what I find myself comparing all other synths to because it has 'the sound' for me
Moog LP + Casio SK1 and MT-75 + tube amp = good tone.

I've an AN1X too so I know the appeal it does have, however its my Yam RS7000 that I can't seem to get away from to work on what should clearly be more superior pieces of kit.

The MFB Synth II. f**k h**l this thing is such an underrated piece.

The main reason why I still didn't get an LP, although I wouldn't mind a voyager. ;)

My Monomachine is my favorite synth... it is the synth that I have never thought of selling and have owned the longest.

Virus TI.

My building has a lot of fire drills, mainly because people don't know how to cook and always burn food, setting off the smoke alarm.

There have been many times when I've packed it up into its case and ran out the building.

Yes, I care about it that much.
No one cares, no one sympathizes,
so you just stay home and play synthesizers.

128 Monome...Always finding new ways to use it. Best open-source sequencer out right now. If you know how to code you can be creating apps for years on this thing and still have room to grow.

FR-777...Just when I think I have the sound I want dialed in I tweak another setting and fall in love again. Powerful subs, great sequencer. Awesome filter!

I'll soon be receiving a Machinedrum and I'm sure I'll be obsessed with that...I had a few minutes tweaking it at the store and realizing everything in it is MIDI controllable...Monome + Machinedrum = heaven

My modular............makes everything feel incapable. But then I just have to remember what those other pieces of gear are really good at. Still love those 101 basslines and I cant seem to get myself to use a different sequencer then the 101's limited step, step program sequencer. Call me crazy but I love step programming.

Yeah... <ahem> that damn microkorg!! :D

My AN1x is much better sounding, but the mk just sits there waiting to be tweaked, and if I fancy a change I'll just plug the nova into the back of it!

In the past I've used the AN1x as a controller for the mk and that makes a big difference.
