Oh, and I might yet find a purpose for the school's D-50. I found a decent "thunder" sound aboard it, and the Bass Marimba might find some use if I ever have to score an Animal Planet documentary...
I'm becoming obsessed!

I recently started my first serious solo recording project, and I found to my great surprise that the ESQ-1 is not only capable of a fantastically mellow pad sound, but that it has a very satisfying bottom end. I recorded the JP-8080 right next to it for brass sounds, and I had to put it through an EQ from the Ninth Circle of h**l to get a brass sound on par with the depth of the old Ensoniq.

I'm currently obsessed with trying to get my Jupiter 8 to not clip my firewire interface and stay at a usable volume. Even with a RNC-1773 limiter, it still clips sometimes at reasonable compressed levels. I could EQ out all the warmth at the channel strip, but where's the fun in that?
That and I can't find a good chorus for it. Tried the EH Clone Theory just yesterday and it's too noisy and, you guessed it, clips too easily. Any suggestions?

I am no longer in pursuit of vintage synths. The generally absurd inflation from demand versus practical use and maintenance costs is no longer viable. The internet has suffocated and vanquished yet another wonderful hobby. Too bad.

THe freakin hammond! I rarely touch my synths anymore! I can't even remember when I recorded anything with them.

Me too. I wish there were more synths like the LP. Great vintage sounds with all the modern conveniences, smart interface, nice build quality.tyrannosaurus mark wrote:moog LP

this is the truth. i thought nothing but the EMX could fill the musical void in my heart, but the MM came along and pushed itself to the center of my studio, literally immediately. i'm struggling to build patterns on my Revolution because it really took a backseat when the Monomachine arrived. it is a fantastic instrument and sequencer.JSRockit wrote:My Monomachine is my favorite synth... it is the synth that I have never thought of selling and have owned the longest.
it is so choice. if you have the means, i highly recommend picking one up.

yeah, I used to be crazy about it too..I got my AN200 too during the moment of AN madnessZamise wrote:I've an AN1X too so I know the appeal it does have
This is what I'm thinking to do. Get the reversed key MK and control it from a better controller. My X-stn even has a ready made MS2000 template. I believe with the right keys and interface it's not as micro anymorestephen wrote:In the past I've used the AN1x as a controller for the mk and that makes a big difference.

It's funny you mention the EMX-1...I've always viewed it as the poor mans monomachine. I love the idea of that machine...love it as a sequencer...but ultimately didn't like many of the synthesis methods. I'm hoping Korg makes something like it again in the future.killedaway wrote:this is the truth. i thought nothing but the EMX could fill the musical void in my heart, but the MM came along and pushed itself to the center of my studio, literally immediately. i'm struggling to build patterns on my Revolution because it really took a backseat when the Monomachine arrived. it is a fantastic instrument and sequencer.JSRockit wrote:My Monomachine is my favorite synth... it is the synth that I have never thought of selling and have owned the longest.

Ahh the olde AN1X.
A lovely bit of kit.
I could do things with that that I've never been able tr replicate.
Just wish its wasn't sooo..... bendy in the case department
I have some kit I'm happy with, but not obsessed.
DIY has my full attention these days.

Yeah man, totally. I recently bought a micromoog for live use so I could get the lead sounds I use on the LP out of it. Sounds real similar, but the bass on the micromoog is no-where near as appealing to me as the LP's basses areotto wrote:Me too. I wish there were more synths like the LP. Moog LP + Casio SK1 and MT-75 + tube amp = good tone.

true, that also exactly how I feel about it. may be the sound is great, but just not for me yet. I hope korg would release something like a combo of the EMX, ER (a better drum modelling) and ES around the same price of the EMX-1. oh and at least one mono analog filter and distortion in the fx sectionJSRockit wrote:It's funny you mention the EMX-1...I've always viewed it as the poor mans monomachine. yep. i've sort of soured on most of the EMX's synth types nowadays, but for unison saws, it's great; trance-y leads and big basses are easy. the WS can be fun for FM-ish sounds and i like a couple of the PCM sounds, but most of the stuff (Ring Mod, Cross Mod, Osc Sync, VPM and the dreaded Chord Osc) are one-trick ponies. they just can't be edited enough.JSRockit wrote: It's funny you mention the EMX-1...I've always viewed it as the poor mans monomachine. - BUT -
there's one thing the EMX does that can't be touched by any other sequencer (that's as quick and easy to record with): 8-measure patterns with five mono parts -- if i had no other use for the EMX, it would still be worth the money for the sequencer. i die a little every time i hit the 4-measure/64-step wall in my MM. i like to chain patterns in real time as i work, and i like to put differing rolls and changes on the 4th and 8th measures. also, having to switch patterns just to work out an 8-measure chorus completely disrupts the flow for me. Electribe step-sequencing x5 means i can use it to control my mK, my DX200 and my HS10 with one more part for whatever the heck else. the MM has it beat in the sheer number of channels, but those 64 extra steps on the EMX will secure its place in my setup forever. for the record, this is also what i don't like about every single one of the old 'tribes.
