Which Reaktor ensembles do you recommend?

Hugo76 · Post by **Hugo76** » Sun Apr 13, 2008 3:10 am

Yeah, I've just bought Reaktor 5, and I'm eager to download some of the creations from the user base (available on NI's website for registered users).

Any recommendations?

herw-Modular Mini 2.2.6
Eminent V 310 - Strings Ensemble
Koyaanisqatsi 2.0
all you can find by James Walker-Hall
and depending on how adventurous you want to get check out stuff from Rick Scott - Dieter Zobel
oh and Synth-in-a-Case

Thanks for the tip, bluedad, will check'em out!

I don't use the synths that much, but Bluedad's recommendations are good ones. I do like SIAC.

There is a nice OB-Xa clone too. It sounds a bit different from the normal Reaktor synths.

You can use the search function to pick out the most popular, they are often a good guide.

Have fun!

Fatcat is a good Moog emulator. CL909-xi-1.4 is another great sequencer that will play samples as well.

Hugo76 · Post by **Hugo76** » Tue Apr 15, 2008 1:35 pm

Many thanks for great tips.
I downloaded Koyaanisqatsi 2.0, and it looks pretty awesome. I also found a nice Juno 6 emulator, and some other interesting stuff.
What I especially after, are more experimental stuff, such as the delay effect WhiteGrains.

I must say I'm amazed at this software, and at the same time a little confused over the terminology. As I understand a patch is called a "snapshot", but what exactly is the difference between an "ensemble" and an "instrument"?

Anyways, thanks again guys!

MarkM · Post by **MarkM** » Tue Apr 15, 2008 2:48 pm

An ensemble is usually (but not always) a collection of instruments. For example: you could build a 2 oscillator subtractive synth instrument and a step sequencer instrument and patch the two together and make an ensemble that would play in tandem.

I guess they call their patches snapshots because in the early days of modulars some people would take a Polaroid snapshot of their patches so they could have a record of the setup.

Thanks for the info, Mark.
There seems to be an awesome amount of mindbending synths available.
Any more suggestions are very welcome!

I'd suggest having a look at kvr and do a forum search for favorite/best reaktor ens. Those threads pop up regularly, and I'm always delighted to discover something I've missed.

The Solina emulations are stunning: http://matrixsynth.blogspot.com/2008/01 ... aktor.html . I've got the originals too, and these are the very best you can get in terms of emulations (except for perhaps an emulator built on the Nord G2, and only because that one's a bit more direct in operation).

What I especially after, are more experimental stuff, such as the delay effect WhiteGrains.

There's something called "Icepad" which is downright awesome.

Hugo76 · Post by **Hugo76** » Sat Apr 19, 2008 5:06 pm

Yoozer;
Yes, the Icepad is awesome. I think that one was my first download.
I'll check out the Solina emulations, but I have to admit I have little knowlegde about this synth. Thanks for the tip

bluedad · Post by **bluedad** » Sun Apr 20, 2008 4:09 pm

oh yeah, that Solina is nice..I forgot about it. actually, there are so many I'm sure it's not the only one I've forgotten.
Synth-in-a-Case is another cool one!

Filterfix(SP?)- multiband filter with compression and distortion, Mr Pink- delay with some wacky modulations, and Menace-instant DnB bass/lead synth.

+1 on Synth In A Case, major CPU murderer though.
