Superb picture quality, and it's allways a pleasure to see Phil back on stage with the same "team" like in the end of the 70's (with Chester and Darill).
Of course, a reunion gig with Peter and Steve would be even better. But times are changing.

Be great if you could, thanks![]()
That sound you refer to sounds more woodwindy to me?

I must confess I thought he used the CS-80 for the big sweeps but it turns out it's the Polymoog.
Here's a quote from an interview with Tony Banks:
"...The early synths, the genuine synths as opposed to the sampling instruments, that give you those fat sounds which are very present on albums like A Curious Feeling and albums around that period when I first started using synths, which I guess was around Selling England by the Pound, I suppose. Of the last one of those I used a lot was the [Yamaha] CS-80 which had a nice fat sound and was used on Duke and things. Of course, the Prophet [5] kind of took over after that being an important instrument on Mama and Abacab.
Polymoog was another crucial instrument on A Curious Feeling. It had this marvelous Pedal you could use to open the filters with, and it had this extraordinary sound which was used on things like “From the Undertow,” for example. It just gave you this wonderful sort of swell… just volume and opening the filters. So, the instruments have been very important to me over the years."
Part of "From the Undertow" was originally written as an intro to "Undertow" from And Then There Were Three but was not used. However, a version of it was used in the movie The Shout (1978). Incidentally, a couple of VCS3's and an EMS Synthi Sequencer 256 made a cameo appearance in that movie.

Just wonderful! I've recently played my Steve Hackett solo albums. Summer music to me

It's a great piece of music. Also the end of an era of sorts -- Tony's last time out as an all-out progressive rock keyboardist, as Genesis was due to introduce its stripped-down '80s sound with Duke. I never really thought about it before, but yeah, the Polymoog must have been a big part of it since A Curious Feeling and And Then There Were Three both have that dense Polymoog sound; I get the impression that Tony was using it to do a lot of things that he always wanted to do with the Mellotron, but could never get it to behave the way he wanted. Such as in the intro to "Somebody Else's Dream", where the chords bend upwards to the notes during the attack.Micke wrote:Tony Banks' solo album A Curious Feeling (1979) has become a favorite of mine lately. It's a hammond B3 with a phaser instead of a leslie speaker!Anaon wrote:Hi!
Thanks for this great thread!
Listening to Wind And Wuthering some minutes ago I was wondering which keyboards were used for "Afterglow"? There's some Taurus I guess but what about the nice pad sounds?
Thanks for any information about the song
