Around 1988 I was kid in school, I borrowed a Casio SK-1 mini sampler keyboard for the summer hols.. now aside from the usual voice clips/possible burps.. which I do not remember, I DO remember sampling a short clip of Duran Duran's 'interlude one' from the Big Thing album of the same year - then playing it LOW to 'slow it down' and hear the actual 'song' (Which btw sounded catchy), not sure if it was a DD demo they didn't use or something else - but I remember re-using that sample in some stuff I was doing at the time (basic/naive/childish 'synth tapes' using the Casio HT-3000).
Re: The first thing you sampled
One of the first, if not the first, was an answering machine message from the neighbor calling in a noise complaint about our band - "this is your back door neighbor, and if you don't stop that, I'm going to call the police."
Of course we used it in a song.
He really did call the police, too.

a burp on a CASIO SK-1 on my high school days
I don't know how much times this toy was used to sample burps, I can bet it was used also for farting. Maybe millions of times
So if you get a second handed one, be sure to give a nice cleanup to the mic

Amen Break when I acquired my Dad's Ensoniq EPS in Jan. 2007. I kinda wish I had brought it with me to California but I don't have room for it.

I told ya, if you get a SK 1 on ebay, give a nice obssessive cleaning to the onboard microphone.
100% sure somebody farted on it

I was 17 (high school) and got one of my female friends to make a (fake) sexual moan into some cheap mic into my EPS. I then amused her by playing chords with it.

Re: The first thing you sampled
when I got my ESX, I took it to some friends. we had no idea what all the effects did, but we had tons of fun just adding a microphone, run it through the fx and see what happened
I think some of the samples are still in there, like my friends whispering "Nosferatu", sounded absolutely insanely scary when we pitched it down and added some reverb and delay :p
oh, and the HORRIBLE beatboxing I tried to do.. god damn that sounded awful..

A few weeks ago at a late night pissed up jam session at my brothers pub, I found out that I'm not actually too bad at beatboxing. People said it was good at the time but I thought they were taking the piss. It was only when I played back the recording I'd made on my mp3 player a few days later that I realised they weren't joking. I certainly wasn't as good as most of the pro guys out there but I was quite impressed with myself!TrondC wrote:oh, and the HORRIBLE beatboxing I tried to do.. god damn that sounded awful..
