Read your whole post, somehow missed the edit. No hard feelings from what you said. Please believe me that I wouldn't ask questions about things I can find in the manuals. Like I said I did a lot of reading and there were just certain things I either couldn't find in the manuals, or didn't understand after reading them. There were also questions I posted that I ended up finding the answers to myself after more digging. However, it doesn't hurt to have a ready answer from someone to save time digging :P

I believe that a great part of forums are for meeting people where they are and being able to help them how you can, rather than belittle them. I wouldn't blame "modern society" for saying something that comes across as rude in any decade. This isn't even dealing with being politically correct, it's just about being decent.

If you have an idea (other than pointing out my lack of knowledge) to what could be the problem to my issues in the last post, I'd love to hear from you. Did you listen to the audio sample?

Still Lester, what makes me most wonder and what got stuck in my head is this... (now do not take this as attack again)...

Before You wrote so...

So, very sensible!

I'm just doing what I can with the synth, and if I can't fix it, I'll take it to a professional. I got this synth for so cheap that I'm not really losing any money by messing it up.
really, what is the hurry now and why such change ?
Take a break, learn, and then it is time for it. So, peace! ;)

I think that You learn quite a lot and You can fix it, still do not think that professional could fix anything nor do miracles if You burn something down inside which is proprietary chip. Also they are actually not so pleased to repair something if someone other has already messed inside with it, as it will be more work as they think "WHAT FOR THAT WAS CHANGED?" and makes lots of irritation. (Well, thats it if talking about my own childhood while being greenhorn -- making extra mess, and putting back diodes in TV, but backwards in PSU rectifier. :S Still, it was discovered before it was switched on. I heard later that mad comment "Diodes backwards!!").

Yes the synth is high value, but I'm not very invested into money wise, since I got it so cheap. I'm itching to use the synth to record music, since I play in bands and play shows. Also, I don't really care if a service guy gets annoyed from me tinkering with it, he's getting paid end of story.

Again, do you have any advice on the thumping sound in my sample? Is that from the vca not being calibrated properly?

Welp. Synth turned off and won't power back on.

Lester Drek wrote: What do you mean if it sounds closer to 800 or 220 Hz? I can't tell frequency by ear, if that's what you meant. So I should adjust the master tuner until it sounds right? But then wouldn't the middle position for the master tuner no longer be in tune? I'm just a little confused by what you're telling me to do.
Standard A is 440Hz. Frequency doubles every octave up, so next A will be 880Hz. A good online tuner will show the frequency of the note so you can tune by numbers if you find that more accurate. The master tune pot doesn´t have to be in the center position all the time. Pots are meant to be tweaked WHEN NECESSARY. If the Juno stays in tune only with that pot off center, just leave it at that. If it still stays out of tune, it could be a bender issue.
To adjust the vca offset, I have to be in the bank 1 program, which doesn't produce sound when you play keys.
Well, if you follow the service manual instructions, you will see the test mode that´s specific for vca offset calibration will set the synth parameters for no sound and that´s the idea. Under those conditions a vca with the wrong offset will produce a thump, or a pop, everytime you hit a key. Any other sound produced by the synth would mask that thump, making it difficult to calibrate. So you have to adjust the trimmer until all you hear is, just, silence.

That´s Murphy´s Law, right? Luckily it´s a simple fix, but I won´t help you any further. Not trying to disencourage you; I never had a formal education so I can relate. But my advice to you now is: since you can´t afford technical assistance, ebay that Juno and buy a new synth with the money.

Best of luck.

I do not like that attitude.
WHat next, like I should repair it to You?!
(I think that I just wasted my energy).
Also, I don't really care if a service guy gets annoyed from me tinkering with it, he's getting paid end of story.
Oh yes boss! (irony) Then You must pay very good as You made extra work with your tinkering.

Do you have some imagination how much reparation costs? What if the repair bill is something between
500..750 GBP or even 850GBP ? Do you know how much their hour costs?? etc. Do they even take into repair it where you are? All that makes sense only with repairing brand new items (in ideal way also when these are under warranty period, but those repair workshops are in a counted places).
It depends how much time it requires and then the details, but it cant be said in advance! Never.
And it is not something to argue with, just pay, becouse the work is done and if not paying then they keep it for coverage of repair expenses.
Also it must be very enthusiastic repairman for that item, or do you really think that whatever repair shop takes it into repair?! At first you have to search -- where are located such repairshop for 35 year old instrument? Not every repairworkshop is over the TV screen repairs practice, also there are those with "big factory mentality".
And if You find it then it can also happen that they return it "cant help, sorry", but still charge you for it. Also it is not warranty that it gets repaired even in a month if they are heavily loaded or not interested.

Lester Drek wrote:Welp. Synth turned off and won't power back on.
SO, why dont you take that as a message?! --- "take a break, get smarter and then come back".

Is there problem that You cannot take that simple advice?! You are too impatient and hasty.
I dont like that. Neither the time is argument, You just have to concentrate on learning and the process cannot be accelerated.

To sell it in e-bay would be good choice enough, if the goal is just to get a working synthesizer to Your actual use in recording sessions and band. All other options cost to You money (repairs in workshop), OR patience and discipline (learning and just leaving be that Juno for a whie). ;)
Your choice.

My TASCAM DA-P1 was in a drawer ca 4 years before I took it out again and repaired successfully.

Lol you don't like my attitude of asking for help? Isn't that what forums are for? Okay then. I actually already found a tech at a competitive price who charges by what they service, not by hour.

I'm unsure about what I'm going to do with the synth. Apparently there is a simple fix to the synth not turning on, but no one will guide me in a direction, so okay.

You said you found a tech that charges less than most? That´s great. Why are you still unsure about what to do? Having broken the power supply is enough evidence by now that you´re not able yet to fix the synth. So no, it´s not ok and you know it. You have been warned plenty of times. I won´t be blamed responsable if you injure yourself by messing around with the LETHAL voltages present. Take it to a tech. Or sell it. Seriously.

One fool can ask more questions than seven wise men can answer.

...and I am a non-competitive tech who charges based on customers attitude, not by what I service.
For customers like You, I would certainly place a price with biggest hammer possible.

Well, I have got several people interested in electronics, and building things and giving on the same knowledge to next ones about 16 years ago... but in this situation I don't have any words how impatient some can be. :(

.... Lester...
forums are not only for asking questions (especially very basic ones). Forums are also about CONTRIBUTING, but that is something You do not understand due to your hasty and impatient character.

But just asking elementary questions becouse you "have no time to read the books", is just a wasting time of the other forum members and shows no respect towards others time.
But ignoring the advice, not reading it and asking the same thing again is outrageous.

If you would be willing to learn so that you really should have listened (i.e. took the pedals kit or making a minicomputer), or building something entirely new from the scratch, the things would be very different. Those who are really putting effort into the learning process, without shortcuts, doing independent learning, get support almost from everywhere and are really appreciated. Even better if leaving feedback later how the suggestions and some tips worked or what was the exact fault AND its solution -- it helps others too and can be counted as contribution.

We all have been trying to explain to you that all these tips and tricks which you get from us and also from Youtube, work ONLY IF YOU HAVE THE BASICS in knowledge about electronics. But no, no, no, not only that, You want in a ideal way the complete formula that "swap the rectifier plus and minus" and "reverse the capacitor polarity" and You are asking then after every half an hour "what I do next now?!" and then "thanks, I gotta go now, I am busy"...or how? Is that what forums are for in your thought?
