I used to live in the Woodstock N.Y. area. I go the Woodstock dump one day and there is a burnt up sequential circuits keyboard, can't remember the model. The casing was a bit charred, keys melted on it, the top control section mostly intact. I grabbed it and threw it in the truck. I came to find out Tod Rundgrens studio on Mink Hollow road had burnt down and it turned out it was one of his. I brought it home, took all the components out of the case, took all the melted keys off and laid out all the components on a rug on the floor and hooked them up. None of the boards seemed to be affected and the ribbon cables intact. To my surprise the thing lit up. The pushbuttons were mostly intact, the LEDs worked etc but I never could get it to sound. I had no clue how to operate it, for one being mostly a guitar player. I wound up leaving the boards etc at a buddies house long ago. It was the same model Tori Amos was using at the time.
Just an interesting story and a testimony to the integrity of the components they used at the time?
Cool story maybe?

Yes you are right. Previously, the technique was made more reliable and durable. And now, in connection with the constant updating of the model range and the pursuit of superprofits, devices are practically made for one day. It is simply not profitable for such a number of manufacturers to make durable things, because durable devices will be expensive, which means that purchases will be less frequent.

A friend of mine used to have a Jupiter 4, a Jupiter 6, and a Jupiter 8 which had survived a fire -- they were all charred, with molten knob caps, with molten plastic dripping from the Jupiter 8 down onto the Jupiter 6 -- and they were all still playable!
Required a thorough cleaning and a bit of TLC, though.
