Digital Breakaway Vocalizer 1000 (bad eprom, ESQ1 inside!)

Hi everyone,

So I took a chance on an old vocalizer. I wasn't even sure what it was other than it had a mic that came with it, in relatively good shape and midi in / out..

I got it home and while it would play back some of the preset patterns and such, the instrument section produced no sounds when using the mic but you could hear the mic signal coming out of the speaker so the mic is working that much.

The big giveaway is that you can do a hard reset and when it does that it says "Rom check failed". I think it's understandable as it's say in storage in an attic for years here in Boston. and it has an eprom you can tell has the classic stick over the rom which were more prone to eventually going bad.

So I also learned it has an ESQ1 engine inside it. My question is since it's highly unlikely (but maybe not impossible?) to find a eprom for this unit specifically, wondering if it would simply use an ESQ1 eprom?

This is such a neat an quirky item I had to give up on it. Any thoughts or suggestions?

Nope. The EPROM tells an ESQ1 how to be an ESQ1, it won't tell a Vocaliser how to be a Vocaliser.

yea figured they wouldn't be 1:1 was hoping the audio to midi part of it might be somehow outside of the rom itself and maybe be more like patches and such.. but that was a stretch.
