I played in a Joy Div/New Order Trib a few years ago. We didn't do these tracks. Ecstacy, that "bass synth" sounds like a Korg 770 although it's an easy sound to program. They had an Emulator too (so anything is possible) and a DX7, I can hear a small sound near the end of the song that could well be that.

5 8 6 sounds like, Bernard got bored, just played any preset in the DX7.. smoke.. press press.. smoke.. press... are we done yet? That would be my first port of call. I did have a DX7s now moved to a MODX (a really good item). With the DX series though, the sounds are very difficult to reproduce by ear from scratch, preset surfing can work, really need to know the exact patch name. I did this with a New Order song, (forget the title) I knew it was a DX7, eventually I found the patch name disclosed in an interview.

That bass sound on those tracks is basically two narrow pulse waves on an analogue synth. Sounds like the Octave Plateau Voyetra 8 which they used a lot at this time. You could do it on any synth really.

There is no DX7 on this album. Couldn't be because it was recorded October-November 1982. DX7 did not come to market til July 1983.
