The choir sound is most prominent around 2:47

I've heard the sound on other mid-80s tracks also. Would be great to know which synth its from. Emulator II, Fairlight?

The closest one I found so far is preset named "Voices" (program 12) from Emulator II's factory library.

Great question. This sound turns up in Sakamoto Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence. Does sound very much like an EII or even a EI preset. I will look into it.

Thank you, it definitely sounds correct. Also used in "Round and Around" by Jaki Graham.

Great Derek Bramble production, (another) one of my favourites from '85... it does sound like there's some other short samples in that track too (eg the rising bells etc), so definitely could be on the sampley side of things. I'd be thinking EII for this... I doubt those productions had Fairlight money. Sounds like the EII strings in the middle of the extended version too.

Although never underestimate just how much you can disguise a DX7 in the mix, with enough tricks..!

He's on Twitter, you could probably ask him...

One of my most fave contemporary jazz songs from the 1980s! I have always loved the Koto in it. As for the synth I think it might be an Emulator?
