What are your thoughts on the new Prophet-5? A Prophet-10 that doubles the voice count will also be available.

Sounds like an authentic Prophet 5 revision, as some people have said, from the slightly later around 1980/Memorymoog era instead. Cool !

Actually, it has the chips from all three Revs onboard. There's also a knob to increase the instability like the early revs. Wonder what the haters will be able to complain about now
I listened to Hatfield and the North at Rainbow. They were very wonderful and they made my heart a prisoner.

Super Cool! Being that he said he'd never do it, maybe this leads the way for a reboot of the Prophet VS. That would light the world on fire!

Re: New Sequential Prophet-5 Rev. 4
Time to think about selling my P5 rev. 2 and getting the P10. The operating system is so antiquated on the original rev. 2. It would have been nice to update a few more functions in the new models but it seems to be faithful to the original for the most part. Keyboard Tracking is now Off/Half/Full rather than just Off/On which is a slight improvement but continuously variable as on the original Pro-One should have been possible. Pitchbend Range setting and not having to set Modulation Depth using the Mod Wheel would have been nice.

Surely that would mean SSM chips for the Rev 1 & 2 sections. I'm not aware they've been remanufactured, so it's probably just a light sprinkling of fairy dustmeatballfulton wrote: ↑Tue Oct 06, 2020 12:47 pmActually, it has the chips from all three Revs onboard. The SSM chips are being made again. Read this from SoundOnSound magazine.
As always, they probably won't sound 100% identical because of changes in process technology and such.

Ok, so you’re not aware so that means it’s smoke and mirrorsBroadwave wrote: ↑Wed Dec 02, 2020 10:41 amSurely that would mean SSM chips for the Rev 1 & 2 sections. The SSI remakes (of the 44 not 40) are also used in the Prophet X (hybrid) that’s been out for ages already.
Re: New Sequential Prophet-5 Rev. 4
I've had the rev4 Prophet 10 for a few weeks and love it. I've already had it apart to analyze the circuitry so I can modify it to allow each of the 10 voices to be panned within a L-R stereo field, similar to what the OB-8 offers. Yes, I'm aware of the warranty. The new circuit for panning/mixing/VCA outs is basically designed, currently tweaking it.
One interesting thing I found while mapping out the existing circuitry is that each group of 5 voices is pre-mixed separately, then the two groups are run through two parallel VCAs that allow the gain staging to be automatically adjusted by the computer so it's optimal for both 5-voice and 10-voice operation.
The unit is beautiful and the walnut trim is of the highest quality, plus the sound...well, you know.

Re: New Sequential Prophet-5 Rev. 4
Thanks for the info... I didn't quite inderstand the new Prophet 5/10's Rev switch - I just presumed for authenticity they may have also used new SSM VCO chips along side the Curtis, but apparently, it's just the VCFs - I get it now.meatballfulton wrote: ↑Wed Dec 02, 2020 3:01 pmThe SSM chips are being made again. Re: New Sequential Prophet-5 Rev. 4
I'm not exactly an electronics engineer, so I could certainly be wrong about this. But the first thing that comes to mind when I read this is that maybe Sequential is planning a dual-keyboard, 5-voice-per-keyboard, version of the Prophet 10 like they used to sell originally.rschnier wrote: ↑Sun Dec 06, 2020 8:30 pm...

Re: New Sequential Prophet-5 Rev. 4
Dave Smith has stated there have been requests, but he's not planning a twin keyboard version.
